Student enthusiastic: 1,700 organic bread boxes for healthy eating in Bliesgau!

For the 15th time, the Bliesgau-Bio-Brotbox campaign delighted the first graders in the Biosphere Reserve Bliesgau and the city of Bexbach. The campaign has established itself as a real highlight in school start, and with good reason: the children got a practical bread box in bright yellow, plump filled with a variety of regional and biological delicacies. This campaign was the result of a collaboration between the biosphere purpose association and many committed helpers from the municipalities.

Before the big day, around 1,700 of these organic bread boxes were packed at the DHL logistics center in St. Ingbert. The project was supported by the Deutsche Post DHL Group, which not only helped with logistics, but also actively went to hand when packing. The dinner bags included a variety of regional products: from freshly baked bread made of Bliesgau-Mehl to an organic cheese stick to an organic apple and a selection of healthy snacks such as sesam bar and vegan gummy bears due to a lack of nutrients. A special bonus are the vouchers for organic milk that give children and their parents the opportunity to rely on regional products when drinking.

a festival for the children

The joy of the children when unpacking their yellow bread boxes was obvious. These boxes, which are sponsored by the Kreisparkasse Saarpfalz and Sparkasse Saarbrücken, are not only intended for great surprise gifts, but also for daily use, so that the children can always enjoy the healthy snacks.

dr. Theophil Gallo, patron of the campaign and association head of the Biosphere Purpose Association Bliesgau, said very positively: “It is impressive to see how the Bliesgau-Bio-Brotbox campaign succeeds every year and inspires so many children for healthy and regional nutrition. My thanks go to all supporters who are committed to continuing this tradition.” His words were emphasized by Frank John, the deputy head of the association, who was present at the distribution campaign at the Kirkel Limbach primary school: "The Bliesgau-Bio-Brotbox campaign is a valuable initiative for promoting healthy eating and a great example of lived regionality and sustainability."

The children in Kirkel were also able to look forward to a drinking bottle of the Kirkel municipal works, which made the campaign even more attractive. This type of actions clearly shows the commitment to regional products and a diet that is healthy and at the same time supports local economy.

Awareness of regional food is one of the central goals of this initiative to provide healthy eating and awareness of the advantages of regional food. Greta Frese, Environment interns of Commerzbank, who was responsible for the organization of the campaign this year, said: "We would like to raise awareness of healthy eating and the importance of regional food for the little ones."

What exactly can the children expect in their Bliesgau-Bio-Bread Boxes 2024? The selection is large and varied. Here is an overview of the products:

  • bread from various bakeries in the region such as Lenert, Mischo, Mohr or Ackermann
  • apples from Wintringer Hof, Lebenshilfe Obere Saar or from the Obst plantation Peter Schneider
  • carrots from the farm on the Weiher
  • cheese sticks from Neukahlenberger Hof or from new house Sonne
  • honey from Biohonig Wenzel
  • tea of life tree or sun gate
  • Vegan gummy bears of the Sparkasse
  • Sesamriegel from GEPA-The Fair Trade Company and the Fairtrade Saarpfalzkreis
  • Milk voucher of the Bliesgau-Molkerei

The Bliesgau-Bio-Brotbox campaign is therefore more than just a small gift for school start; It conveys values and a attitude to nutrition, which are of great importance, especially in today's world.
