On November 7, 2024, the project "Ulmener Maar-Stollen with the Ulmener Discover tour-a digital journey through time in the Vulkaneifel" was awarded the coveted Rhineland-Palatinate tourism award 2024 in the "Project of the Year" category. Mayor Alfred Steimers and Mayor Thomas Kerpen are overjoyed: "This award is the crowning glory of a complex project that has brought together many committed partners."
the Ulmen Maar-Stollen, an impressive underground experience, extends over 126 meters and offers a fascinating insight into the earth's history of the volcanic setting. Visitors can safely hike through this unique tunnel, which connects two Maare and experience the geological peculiarities of the Region up close. "Accessibility is very important here," emphasizes Kerpen, which makes the tunnels a destination for all age groups.
Innovative visitor steering inspires the jury
The jury was enthusiastic about the combination of geological uniqueness and innovative visitor steering. "The tunnel enables visitors to go underground through the remains of former volcanoes. With a free experience, barrier -free paths and interactive elements such as a child -friendly quiz and three -language display boards stand out as a tourist highlight," said the jury. The project was funded with EU funds and is a prime example of the successful combination of education and leisure.
Project manager Daniela Saxler emphasizes that the Ulmen Maar-Stollen offers an incomparable experience: "Here you can experience the geological peculiarities of our homeland as clearly as nowhere in the Vulkaneifel." This attraction attracts visitors and makes Ulmen a magnet for tourists. The city and the municipal administration of Ulmen also congratulate the other award winners of the Rhineland-Palatinate tourism award 2024, including the Hardthöhe holiday farm and the Art Nouveau hotel Trifels, and thus reaffirm the importance of Ulmen Maar-Stollen in the region.
