IGS Speyer triumphs in a penalty shootout and moves into the Olympic tournament!

Speyer, Deutschland - Speyer cheers! The footballers of IGS Georg Friedrich Kolb prevailed with brilliant game in the first round of the competition "Youth trained for Olympia"! One player stole the show and became the hero of the day!

In a gripping opening match, the IGS team from Speyer triumphed in competition class I of the boys (born 2006 to 2009). The first opponent, the Friedrich Magnus-Schwerd-Gymnasium, was defeated with a clear 3-0. The supervising teacher Johannes Weber praised the team who quickly took the lead and increased to 2-0 with a sensational free kick goal by Julius Deuschel. Even in the second game against the Hans-Purrmann-Gymnasium, the IGS could not be stopped, although it was a harder nut. With a 3: 1 they secured the group victory and moved into the next round!

The final: pure thrill!

In the final, the IGS met the Nikolaus von-Weis-High School, which had previously qualified as a group winner. The match was a real thriller! The IGS equalized after an early deficit by a header from Georgius Konstantakis and then showed a strong performance, but could not score any further goal. So the penalty shootout had to bring the decision. Here Jannis Geimer competed in the goal of the IGS for the big showdown and became a celebrated hero by spectacularly parried two shots of the NWG and thus secured the tournament victory!

With this glorious victory, the IGS Speyer is now moving into the second round of the school competition and will meet the winners from the Germersheim, Frankenthal and Ludwigshafen districts. The footballers from Speyer are ready to continue their success story!
