Ampelchaos in Heiligenstein: Cycle path renovation ensures long waiting times!

Heiligenstein, Deutschland - Römerberg. A traffic chaos threatens! Since the beginning of November, a traffic light at the intersection of K25 and Viehtriftstraße in Heiligenstein has been in good traffic and ensures long waiting times. The reason? The renovation of the bike path towards Mechtersheim! But that's not all - the construction site will move on soon!

Work on the bike path started on November 4, as the state company Mobility (LBM) announced in Speyer. The renovation takes place in two construction phases and brings a full closure with it. Cyclists have to switch to the K25 lane during this time. The district road remains closed on one side, but thanks to the traffic lights it can be accessed in both directions. The nerves of drivers are put to the test!

what is done?

On the bike path, asphalt ceremony is renewed, and the surface is improved in some areas. Root damage is also removed. The construction time for the first section is about three weeks. "Provided good weather", the traffic light system at the EDEKA market junction is expected to be needed until November 25th. Then the traffic light will be implemented in the next construction phase towards Mechtersheim.

This construction project is part of the comprehensive “bike remediation of federal, state and district roads”. A total of 17 renovation measures on bike paths are carried out in the area of responsibility of the LBM Speyer. The total costs for all paths amount to around 2.1 million euros. In September, the district committee awarded an order of around 145,000 euros for the approximately 800 meter long bike path between the Edeka Markt and the Renckehaus Renck-Weindel. So the road users have to adjust to a long time with traffic jams and diversions!
