Lahnstein's Lahnbrücke opened: relief or new chaos?

Lahnstein-On Monday the Lahnsteiner Lahnbrücke was finally ceremoniously opened! From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., people flocked to visit the freshly renovated section of federal road 42. The anticipation was great because the opening came two months earlier than planned. Originally, the bridge was only to be opened a week later, but thanks to the tireless work of the construction companies, the tape could be cut on November 4th.

But the party mood is overshadowed by a constant traffic chaos! While the bridge is finally accessible, the traffic in the city builds up in all directions. The renovation of the traffic routing causes massive problems, and residents have to continue to be patient. Mayor Siefert announced that the traffic concept must be fundamentally re -planned. The relief over the bridge is quickly obtained from reality.

In the middle of these celebrations, rumors about an alleged vacation trip by Economic and Transport Minister Daniela Schmitt. A shitstorm about the state government in Mainz followed when the opening was postponed by a week. LBM director denied the allegations and emphasized that the delay was due to necessary remaining work. Nevertheless, speculation on social media remained unbroken.

The opening of the Lahnbrücke marks progress, but at the same time the streets between Bad Ems and Lahnstein are completely closed due to renewal work. The population is dissatisfied because other streets are also being renovated at the same time. These measures are part of a larger project to improve the infrastructure, which should continue until 2026. The commuters have to prepare for considerable detours while the construction work continues.
