DRK Bad Ems removes old clothing container: crisis in clothes recycling!

Bad Ems, Deutschland - shocking turn in Bad Ems! The DRK local association Bad Ems has made the radical decision to remove all the old clothing containers in the urban area and the surrounding communities. This measure comes into force on Saturday, November 2. Alfred Heß, treasurer of the DRK, deeply regrets this decision and explains: "This is a decision that I have reluctant to make with the entire board." But the reason is alarming: the waste disposal of the old clothes has filed for bankruptcy!

The consequences are dramatic! The emptying, removal and the recycling and sorting of the accumulated old clothes can no longer be guaranteed. Hess urgently appeals to the population: "Please no longer throw old clothes into the existing containers or put them off beforehand!" If you want to get rid of your old textiles, you now have to contact other charitable institutions. The Situation is tense because the market for old clothes has collapsed. The sales market for the collected raw materials is practically no longer available, and the warehouses of the recycling companies are overcrowded.

market crisis and abundance

The problems of the industry are homemade. Hess has observed the development of the market since the beginning of the year, and the situation has been dramatically intensified since September. New goods from China floods the markets, while the Ukraine conflict has further sales opportunities. The attempts to find alternative customers have failed. In order to prevent the containers from overflowing and the cityscape, the DRK Bad Ems has no choice but to remove the containers. A clear call to the citizens: Look for other ways to get rid of your old clothes!
