Life -saving donation for Neuwieder Homeless - Defibrillator handed over!
Heddersdorfer Straße, Neuwied, Deutschland - In Neuwied, the Sparkasse Neuwied made a decisive donation by handing over a defibrillator to the day care center "Schöppche". This facility has been a safe port for homeless people for almost 30 years and not only offers meals and hygiene offers, but also access to basic medical care by a volunteer doctor. This measure became necessary after the doctor made aware of the urgent need for quick medical help. At the official handover on November 1, 2023, Mayor Peter Jung emphasized that every person has a right to medical care, and praised the valuable work that is done in the "Schöppche".

"It is impressive what is being done here for the people in our city," said Thomas Paffenholz, board member of Sparkasse Neuwied. The handover of the defibrillator is seen as an important sign of the support of the volunteers who work on site every day. Olga Scott and Ulrike Proft from Caritas emphasized that such an institution would not be possible without this commitment. This initiative is particularly relevant in times when medical care for homeless people is often inadequate, as has already been discussed in an article by Definatz eV
Definetz EV, the largest cadastre of defibrillators in Germany, has been working on building a comprehensive and easily accessible database for locations of defibrillators since 2011. This not only includes the locations themselves, but also information about operators and maintenance. These efforts are crucial to ensure that help can be provided immediately in an emergency. In view of the inadequate update and inconsistent detection criteria in the past, cooperation with European institutions is being pursued in order to create a system that can be used across Europe.
