Roofing fire alarmed fire brigade: dramatic use in Neustadt!
In the late evening hours of October 6, 2024, the fire brigade Wiener Neustadt was alerted to a roof truss fire in Formergasse. The district alarm and warning center received the emergency call shortly before 10:30 p.m. and immediately set the emergency services in motion. Fire director and fire brigade commander Christian Pfeiffer led the units that rushed quickly to the site.
When it arrived, the situation was confirmed: dense swaths of smoke quollen from a window in the attic of the multi -party house. Because of the difficult operating conditions, in particular due to the lack of installation areas for the lifting devices, Pfeiffer decided that the firefighters would have to make access to the stove of the fire through the staircase. "We had to make our way into the roof structure from the inside," explained Pfeiffer.
intensive extinguishing work
In order to be able to carry out fire fighting effectively, two respiratory protection teams were sent to the upper floor with extinguishing pipes. The fire had not only affected the roof structure, but also the underlying apartment, as the fire penetrated through the ceiling and walls. "Combating the fire was exhausting," admits Pfeiffer. The firefighters had to work intensively to extinguish the fire, while despite the adverse circumstances, they struggled through the smoke and the heat.
A planned use to open the affected ceiling area manually was taken to remove the fire rubble and ventilate the apartment. At around 00:20 a.m., “fire from” could finally be given after the flames were under control. The evacuated apartments in the area of the fire stove were checked and found to be safe. Nevertheless, the fire apartment was so badly damaged that living there will no longer be possible.
The cause of the fire was taken over by the executive to clarify the background of the incident. It remains exciting what the investigators will find out and what additional information you get through the cause of the fire.
At 01:20 a.m., the volunteer emergency services of the Wiener Neustadt fire brigade finally returned to the fire station and began to make the vehicles and their personal protective equipment ready for use again in order to be prepared for future missions. It is a constant challenge to deal with such operations and at the same time react quickly to every emergency call.
