Mayor praises Tafel Abensberg: A model of solidarity!

In an impressive meeting, Mayor Dr. Bernhard Resch Die Tafel in Abensberg to get a comprehensive overview of the valuable work of the association. Together with the chairman Rudolf Buchner, he discussed the important role of the table that offers the needy in the region essential support. Between 150 and 170 people are currently being cared for in Abensberg, while around 110 people are dependent on help in Neustadt an der Donau. In addition, approx. 120 children are among the recipients of the food packages.

In order to procure the required food, the team drives to various cities such as Nuremberg, Munich, Weiden, Schwandorf and Regensburg. This bonanza of trips ensures that the supply can also be guaranteed with fresh foods. More than 30 shops in Abensberg and the surrounding area support the table by donations that are coordinated by the association.

commitment and commitment

The table in Abensberg stands out due to a particularly high degree of commitment. The chairman Buchner, who has headed the club for 18 years, reported the need to organize the food output process. To do this, he recruited two “sheriffs” - two volunteers, an Iranian and an Iraqi who have been waiting for the waiting for eight years. When picking up over 100 people, it can be very lively. "We are a shop," said Buchner with a smile. The two helpers are therefore an indispensable support of the daily processes.

The concept of the board not only refers to the food edition, but also strives to promote people as a whole. In the past few months, a beautiful open area with a garden, insect hotel and a grill has been created - an initiative that was launched by the commitment of the members. The positive feedback from the community illustrates success: Unlike in other cities, Abensberg does not lead to waiting lists and can take up anyone in need. This is an enormous responsibility that Buchner describes as the "price of our efforts".

The number of members of the association speaks for itself: The Tafel Abensberg currently has around 180 members. The support from donations remains stable, which is essential for the continued existence of the association. Buchner emphasizes that transparency in the organization creates trust and thus remains the willingness to donate in the region. The aim is to be able to help the needy - this success is obliged to continuously gain new members.

members and challenges

currently around 85 volunteer members work in the board, but the high average age of the active members, which are mostly between 60 and 85 years old, is a challenge. Mayor Dr. Resch used his visit to thank the members for their extraordinary work. However, the association faces continuous challenges. Renovation work is currently being carried out in the main building of the table, and this week nine windows and two doors are being replaced. Another aspect is the logistical permits for the outbuildings in which cooling cars and a large cold room are housed that are essential for smooth food supply.

For everyone who wants to support the Tafel Abensberg, there is the opportunity to make financial contributions.
