Cultural journey of discovery: Eifelverein conquers Homburg and Blieskastel

In an exciting day culture trip by the Eifelverein Mayen, the members were drawn to the Homburg district in Saarland, where a varied program was waiting for them. Under the direction of Joachim Rogalski, the participants were invited to discover both the historical and the landscape of the region. The trip had some surprises, including visits and hikes that made the day an unforgettable experience.

The start of the day was a visit to the open-air museum in Schwarzenacker, where the participants were able to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of Gallo-Roman history. Interesting archaeological excavations were presented in this museum, which offered insights into the everyday life of a small town 2000 years ago. The clear reconstructions were very well received by the guests and aroused interest in the history of the region.

joint activities and experiences

In parallel to the museum excursions, hiking friends went on an exploration tour under the guidance of hiking guide Erich Hübgen. Her hike led from Blieskastel via Alschbach to Niederwürzbach. On the way, the participants came across the Gollenstein, an impressive Menhir, the origins of which go back to about 4000 years. This historical site stopped and stimulated reflection on the region's history.

After an eventful morning hour, all participants found themselves for lunch together in the Hotel Annahof am Niederwürzbacher Weiher. The food not only offered a welcome refreshment, but also the opportunity to exchange ideas about the experiences from the morning and to share the anticipation for the afternoon.

The Eifel club groups subsequently made their way to the Baroque town of Blieskastel, where they were received by two city guides in historical costumes. The tour began at Paradeplatz in front of the historic town hall, which served as a real eye -catcher. The Napoleon fountain on the market square was particularly impressive. This obelisk, surrounded by a stone snake, which carries a water -breathing head, is a striking symbol of the city.

The tour also gave an insight into the castle church on the Schlossberg, which was built in late baroque form and now serves as an event location for concerts. From there, the participants were able to admire the "orangerie", a Renaissance building that is the most important part of the former palace complex and is one of the most important remains of German architecture of the 17th century in Saarland.

The day came to an end, and the participants enjoyed the impressive view over the roofs of the baroque town. The design of this day culture trip made it possible for everyone to experience not only natural beauties, but also cultural treasures in the region.

Due to the successful daily planning and the diverse activities, the Eifelverein hopes to be able to offer interesting day culture trips in the coming hiking year. The experiences and impressions of the participants from this trip will certainly be remembered for a long time.
