Grief and humor: Bishop Kohlgraf in conversation with Lars Reichow

Carl-Zeiss-Str. 32, 55129 Mainz, Deutschland - An evening full of emotions and profound conversations! On Wednesday, November 6th, numerous guests gathered in the Mainz-Hechtsheim community center to attend an extraordinary dialogue between Bishop Peter Kohlgraf and the cabaret artist Lars Reichow. Under the title "Heaf, Heaf Gänsje ... - Grief and comfort. Fun and ridicule", the two discussed the complex connection between grief and humor. The association grieving parents and children Rhein-Main had invited to this special event that was filled to the last place.

The event began with an unexpected digression into world politics when moderator Daniel Meuren addressed the election result in the USA. Bishop Kohlgraf expressed his concern about the democratic institutions and the choice of a "liar" as president. Reichow added sharp words that the choice between a prosecutor and a criminal was a shocking decision. But the two interlocutors quickly turned to the central theme of the evening: their personal experiences with grief. Reichow, who acts as an ambassador for the association, spoke moving about the loss of his mother and the lasting grief he felt. Kohlgraf also shared his experiences and emphasized that the church did not have the monopoly to coping with grief, but offered him support in difficult times.

grief and humor: a sensitive topic

The discussion took a deeper turn when Kohlgraf reported on his visits to cemeteries during his vacation. "I try to imagine how people lived together in this village," he said. Reichow commented on the graves of children and the inexplicable grief associated with it. Kohlgraf remembered a young person whose words had touched him deeply before his death.

In an urgent appeal, Reichow emphasized the importance of the church as the foundation of society. "Where it disappears, something is irretrievably lost," he said, and demanded more humor in the church to reach more people. Kohlgraf agreed and explained that laughter can beat a bridge between grief and humor about shared memories with deceased. The event was part of the series "Death.Ange.leben", who would like to address people who want to deal with death and grief. Admission was free and donations were collected to support the association's grief work.
