New restricted zone in Mainz-Bingen: wild boar fever through ASP!
In the district of Mainz-Bingen, a comprehensive restricted zone now reaches due to the African swine plague (ASP). This urgency measure was set up in response to the finds of infected wild boars in the Rheingau-Taunus district and on the Mariannaue in the Rhine. The new regulations that apply now affect the districts of Gonsenheim, Finthen and Mombach to Schwabenheim, Ingelheim and Bingen-Gaulsheim. Dogs are to be kept on a leash in the restricted zone and a hunting ban applies. In order to avoid game damage, however, exceptions can be requested from the district administration, such as FFH reported .
dr. Markus Wacker, the head of the veterinary office, emphasizes the urgency of compliance with these measures to prevent the ASP virus from spreading. To control wild boar movements, the authorities plan the construction of electrical fences. Although no infected wild boars have so far been discovered in the affected areas, the situation is particularly tense, since the southern part of the district has been affected by ASP since June, where wild boars have also been found. The website of the district of Mainz-Bingen provides comprehensive information on the current measures and contact details for information about found wild boars.
rules within the blocking zone
It is prohibited to transport pigs in or from the affected area. There are currently around 300 to 400 domestic pigs in the district and Mainz, the stocks of which are monitored by the official veterinarians. The leash for dogs is particularly important near the Rhine in order not to scare the wild boars and prevent possible alternative movements. In the restricted zone II, special regulations for hunting are determined: The ban on hunting on all wild types except for wild boar is lifted if fewer than two wild boar per 100 hectares have been shot in the past five years. Here, however, the hunt for hunt with silencers remains limited. These planned measures aim to control the wildlife population and the risk of an ASP propagation.
