Burkardt conquers the stage: Mainz 05 celebrates a 3-0 victory!

The Bundesliga is currently in top form, and the young striker Jonathan Burkardt from Mainz 05 in particular stands out with his performances. After an impressive 3-0 win against FC St. Pauli, Burkardt contributed significantly to his team's success with two goals. He seemed emotionally touched when he expressed his joy about this success in a conversation with record national player Lothar Matthäus after the game.

Burkardt, who has already scored five goals in six games this season, looks back on a turbulent past. Last year he struggled for months with a complicated knee injury that prevented him from playing in the Bundesliga. There was even concern that his career might end prematurely. But the 24-year-old fought back and is now playing at the highest level again, which is a great relief for FSV Mainz 05.

Focus on the national team

As a talented player, Burkardt has been under the observation of the national team in the past. Under former national coach Hansi Flick, he was one of the potential selection players for the 2022 Winter World Cup in Qatar. Ultimately, however, the decision fell on another player, and another injury prevented Burkardt from proving himself.

Flick's successor Julian Nagelsmann also did not take Burkardt into account in the current nomination. Instead, he preferred Tim Kleindienst from Gladbach. His coach Bo Henriksen commented on this with a touch of irony: "Germany must have the best strikers in the world if Jonny isn't there."

Despite the current disregard, Burkardt remains optimistic. Regarding his chances of being nominated, he explained: "The national team is a dream for every player. I'm trying everything to maybe be invited at some point." This modesty is also reflected in his game, which combines both technical and fighting qualities.

The team has saved itself somewhat from the crisis with its recent away win. Three points from one game is a step in the right direction, and coach Henriksen expects “one hundred percent energy” for the next home game against RB Leipzig after the international break. It's clear that Mainz 05 are under pressure, especially after disappointing performances in recent home games.

Burkardt has established himself as one of FSV Mainz 05's key players, and his ability to both score goals and influence the game makes him a valuable asset for the team. As he pursues his goals and dreams regarding the national team, his performance on the pitch remains the biggest indicator of what could be to come.
