Macheten attack on the police: Process against alleged terrorists begins!

A 29-year-old Albanian citizen, Arlindo M., has to answer for attempted murder. The process takes place in front of the large criminal chamber of the Koblenz district court and is related to a terrorist attack that took place on September 6, 2024 in the Linz police inspection. Arlindo M. entered the police station with an almost 50 centimeter long machete and threatened to kill police officers.

The investigation showed that the attack was motivated to Islamistically. A flag of the "Islamic State" was found during a search of his apartment. During the attack, Arlindo M. called "Allahu Akbar" loudly and tried to violently open the doors. Nevertheless, there were no injuries among the police officers because they could successfully secure the guard. The perpetrator was finally overwhelmed by emergency services of the special units in a sealed safety lock, with Arlindo M. being slightly injured. An arrest warrant for attempted murder was issued against him, and it is in custody.

Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) sharply condemned the attack and praised the police for their determined action. The procedure is directed by the state central office to combat terrorism and extremism Rhineland-Palatinate. It is noteworthy that the perpetrator was not known to the authorities before the attack as an Islamist, which also made the investigation more difficult.

The negotiation now offers the possibility of disclosing further details on the motifs and backgrounds of the attack, while the security forces and the public continue to be confronted with the challenges of extremism.
