personal advice for older people
The parish nurse program is tailored to the needs of elderly people who do not yet need care but are looking for support. The Rhineland-Palatinate state government has provided 3.35 million euros for the nationwide introduction by 2026. In cooperation with other communities, such as the VG Vallendar and the city of Bendorf, Degner and Rieken are now available as contact persons, such as on the website of the community of Weißenthurm .
The community sisters do not offer medical or nursing services, but focus on personal advice on topics such as mobility, living situation and leisure activities. They visit the very old people at home to provide individual support. You help to provide information about existing help and to point out community-relevant offers. "Looking is a big topic," says Rieken, who emphasizes how important social contacts are to improve the quality of life of the elderly. They endeavor to make a bridge to the possibilities of participation and thus create the basis for an active life in old age.
"We always have an open ear for all concerns," emphasizes Degner. Their goal is to support older people in the municipalities in coping with everyday life and to point out help offers. The program not only contributes to improving the quality of life, but also that seniors can experience a stronger connection to their community.
