Cannabis ban in Kaiserslautern: Security for children by 2025!

In Kaiserslautern, the city administration has issued a new general order that prohibits cannabis consumption in the vicinity of the town hall and the mall until October 31, 2025. This means that consumption on public areas that extend between Meuthstrasse and Humboldtstraße in the west and Martin-Luther-Straße in the east as well as between Lauterstraße/Ludwigstraße in the north and Fruesthallstrasse in the south is no longer allowed. The expansion of the ban also applies on school days from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The decision to introduce this ban goes back to Mayor Manfred Schulz. His goal is to better protect children and young people in the area. He found that the region around the town hall and the mall is heavily frequented by students, since there are five schools in the immediate vicinity. "When it comes to the consumption of cannabis near minors, the regulations and distances defined in the law to deal with consumer scannabis (Kcang) are unfortunately neither efficiently nor efficiently enough for everyday control," says Schulz.

The general decree comes into force a day after its publication in the municipal official, i.e. on October 5, 2024 at midnight. In the event of violations of the ban, a fine of up to 30,000 euros will be imposed. The ban not only includes cannabis consumption, but is also intended to help protect the young people from the possible negative influences of drug use. Schulz further explained that the enforcement service will regularly monitor the affected areas in the coming months.

In addition to this ban, a similar decision is planned for the Messeplatz Festival area, which will be announced in the coming week. The measure shows the endeavor of the city administration to both clarify security concerns and to strengthen the protection of minors. The focus around schools is particularly in focus, so that the city wants to pay attention to effective control and monitoring of the regulations.

This decision could also be important for many residents. It gives a clear attitude of the city against the consumption of drugs near educational institutions and thus promotes a safe environment, especially for the younger citizens of the city. The city administration of Kaiserslautern thus pursues a proactive strategy that takes into account both the legal framework and social responsibility.
