Starting shot for L98 expansion: traffic transition between country core and Kaisersesch!

Kaisersesch, Deutschland - In the region between Landkern and Kaisersesch, an important infrastructure conversion will soon be carried out. With an earlier start of construction as initially announced, the work on the L98 starts on October 21 at 7 a.m. This section of the route is crucial for the transport connection, since it includes the confluence of the L100 and the confluence with the K24 towards Illerich.

The measures are divided into three individual construction phases. First, the first construction phase is started, the completion of which is planned together with the second construction work by the end of November 2024, depending on the weather conditions. A half -side blocking of the road is planned for these first two sections, and traffic management is controlled via traffic lights at the L98/L100 node, near the settlement on the milestone.

traffic routing during construction work

The traffic routing is significantly changed during the construction work. For example, the access is closed from the L100 to the L98 in the first two sections. Instead, the city of Kaisersesch transfers traffic to the L98. In order to ensure smooth traffic routing, all necessary changes are displayed by signs on site. These regulations are the result of comprehensive coordination meetings between various institutions, including the police, fire brigade and representatives of the local administration. If you want to have current information on the traffic situation, you can consult the mobility atlas on traffic.rlp.de.

The third construction phase, which is to begin in spring 2025, depends heavily on the weather conditions and can only be carried out by completely blocking the affected section of the route. In this section, the road between the L100 and the K24 towards Illerich is extensively renovated, which should significantly improve traffic safety. In this construction phase, the connection is restored from the L100 to country core, while the traffic routing to the A48 motorway driveway will continue to be diverted by the city of Kaisersesch. The state company Mobility (LBM) Cochem-Koblenz will inform Cochem-Koblenz separately about the exact start date.

"The l98 roadway has numerous damage, including longitudinal and cross-cracks as well as poor grip," said Bernd Cornely, the head of the LBM Cochem-Koblenz. "In order to ensure traffic safety, the bituminous superstructure and the existing protective devices must be renewed and supplemented. After the construction work has been completed, the quality of this traffic route will improve significantly," Cornely continues. These comprehensive work is not only necessary, but also an important step to maintain the infrastructure in the region and to ensure traffic safety for all users.
