New women's shelter in the Eifel: a ray of hope for those affected by violence!
Eifel, Deutschland - Mainz. A new glimmer of hope for women affected by violence and their children: Minister of women Katharina Binz has announced the upcoming opening of the 19th women's shelter in Rhineland-Palatinate today! This women's shelter in the Eifel will open its doors this month and offer space for ten women and their children. "We do everything we can to the fact that every woman who has experienced violence receives the protection and support that she urgently needs," emphasized Binz.
The opening of this women's shelter is not only a further step to improve violence protection, but also a sign of the cooperation between four counties-Bernkastel-Wittlich, Bitburg-Prüm, Cochem-Zell and Vulkaneifelkreis. "Domestic violence is a serious problem that affects all the strata of our society," said Andreas Kruppert, district administrator of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm. "With this women's shelter we are making a strong sign against violence against women and children." It is the first women's shelter in Rhineland-Palatinate that was realized by the joint financing of these counties. A great success that underlines the importance of inter -municipal cooperation!
A safe port for women and children
The women's shelter in the Eifel is operated by the DRK Bitburg-Prüm and is the third women's shelter in Rhineland-Palatinate under its sponsorship. Rainer Hoffmann, District Manager of the DRK, announced: "We are pleased to open the women's shelter to women on November 25, 2024, the international day against violence. Our motivated team will do everything possible to offer the women and children concerned a safe place." The location of the women's shelter remains secret for security reasons, but preparations are in full swing.
The stay of the women in the women's shelter can vary from a few days to over a year, depending on the individual situation. In order to further expand the support, there are already second-stage apartments that offer women and children a temporary solution after their stay in the women's shelter. "We are determined to improve the living conditions for women and children who have experienced violence," says Binz.
