Cochem, Deutschland - in Cochem, the police carried out comprehensive control of alcohol and drugs on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024. Between 4:00 p.m. and midnight, checkpoints were set up in Kaisersesch, Ulmen, Cochem-Brauheck and Treis-Karden. The officers checked a total of 152 people and 138 vehicles, with 26 violations. Particularly alarming: seven drivers were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs!

The crime statistics in the district of Cochem-Zell shows worrying trends: in 2022 283 drug offenses were registered, with an impressive reconnaissance rate of 96%. Among the suspects were 174 men and 53 women, with 12% non-German origin. The dividing of the suspects shows that young people in particular are affected, with 103 suspects under the age of 21. These figures illustrate the urgency with which the police act against drug abuse.
