Focus on sustainability: Trier University of Applied Sciences inspires with innovative projects

Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld, 55765 Birkenfeld, Deutschland - An exciting highlight of the "Week of Sustainability" took place at the Birkenfeld environmental campus, where the "Night of Science" attracted numerous guests and students! Around 130 research -loving participants, including the district administrator Miroslaw Kowalski, were carried out by Prof. Dr. Henrik Te Heesen, the Vice President of the Trier University of Applied Sciences. The event promised exciting insights into innovative research projects and sustainable technologies.

The start was made by Prof. Dr. Oliver Braun designed with a captivating lecture on "new approaches to determine the lower and upper barriers for the competitive analysis in online scheduling". Here he presented a groundbreaking research project that was launched by a successful DFG application. The aim is to develop algorithms that can use resources in online scheduling more efficiently - a project that includes international cooperation with renowned University of California, San Diego!

Afterwards, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Guido Dartmann the exciting projects "Greentwin" and "Kira". Greentwin uses artificial intelligence to actively solve environmental problems - a prime example of "Green by Ai". Kira, on the other hand, focuses on the resource efficiency of AI systems and develops a reference model to optimize resource consumption over the entire life cycle of a AI system. Both projects are located on the environmental campus and have a significant contribution to sustainable technology development!

Another highlight was the lecture by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gutheil, who reported on his international research trips. He attended partner universities in Jordan and the USA to promote the exchange of students and to intensify the cooperation in manufacturing technology. There was also an academic speed dating, in which the new professors of the university were presented, including Dr. Carola Glinski, Dr. Anna Donner de Ceiba and Dr. Christian Mock, who have all exciting projects and courses.

The event found its end in a relaxed atmosphere in which the participants had the opportunity to discuss current research topics and to establish new contacts. In keeping with the "week of sustainability", guests were able to enjoy the delicious, homemade apple juice of the General Student Committee, which was made from 600 kilograms of apples from the environmental campus. A successful evening full of inspiration and innovation!
