Martinsfest without wake -up men: is tradition in danger?
A big Martinsfest is imminent, and for many children in Martinstein and the surrounding area, it could be an unusual celebration. The large traditional masonry, which otherwise create a festive atmosphere at Martin Festure, will probably only be available in a reduced number this year. This is due to the acute lack of bakery journeyman and apprentices that affects production in the local bakery Fickinger.
Jens Fickinger, the owner of the bakery, has produced the popular yeast dump for many years and thus provided numerous communities. 4000 pieces were even delivered last year. These small, rounded rolls are an integral part of tradition, especially in the time around Martin's Day. But it looks different this year. "It is simply not possible to produce the wake -up men in the usual amount," explains Fickinger. The shortage of skilled workers makes it increasingly difficult to maintain production.
alternative offers
In order to be prepared for the Martin fire, Fickinger has decided to offer Martins chocolate wings instead. This sweet alternative could not reflect the same tradition, but will certainly be well received by many children. "We try our best to create something beautiful with fewer means," says Fickinger and is optimistic about the surprises that can raise the solemn mood.
The Fickinger bakery is an established company in the region, whose products can often be found in the local celebrations and community events. The traditional bakery has played an important role in the community over the years, not only through its baked goods, but also as a meeting point and part of social life. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how the usual customs are influenced by the changed product range this year. Fickinger explains that the lack of employees not only affects the wake -up men, but also affects other products in the bakery, which presents the entire production.
The situation is not only challenging for the bakery, but also raises questions about the preservation of local traditions. Users of social media and citizens of Martinstein are already lively discussing them. A Martin's Day without the popular wake -up men? The parents of the children are concerned, look at what they can offer their little ones - and the matter of the heart of the real wake -up men remains in mind.
In conversation, Fickinger shows that he hopes to be able to return the traditional shape of the Weckmanns soon. The bakery is currently focusing on optimizing the existing offers and adapting the production processes to master challenges. But the search for qualified staff remains a pressing problem. Some helpers in the community have already offered their support to save the murmons, but the question remains how many it will be and whether tradition will not be severely restricted this year. "We are working hard on the fact that the festivals remain happy despite everything," Fickinger concludes optimistically.
In view of all of these challenges, it will be all the more important for the residents of Martinstein and the surrounding area to be creative and make the best of this situation. The Martin celebrations could nevertheless become a special experience through new ideas and alternative products. It remains to be seen whether the chocolate corners can conquer the hearts of the little Martins friends. One thing is certain: the long -term nature of this tradition will depend on the willingness of the community, to adapt and support.
