A60 near Mainz-Gonsenheim: Provisionary ensures relief after blocking!

The A60 in Mainz-Gonsenheim has undergone significant changes in the past few days, which are of great importance for drivers. After the bridge, which plays a central role for traffic, was only accessible by a lane due to irreparable damage, extensive bridge work took place last week.

On Thursday morning at 8 a.m., the A60 between the Mainz motorway triangle and the Finthen junction was completely closed. This measure was necessary to install a provisional steel structure that serves as a temporary solution for the defective Gonsbachtal Bridge. This provisional solution, which was released a little earlier than planned at around 7:30 p.m.

Gonsbachtalbrücke and their challenges

The Gonsbachtal Bridge has recently proven to be problematic because the damage that was recently found could no longer be repaired. Stefan Hodes from Autobahn GmbH explained that the provisional construction works like a vaulted board through which the traffic can roll without further loading the bridge. However, this is implemented at a reduced speed of 40 km/h.

After the work on Thursday, there were only low traffic disruptions, since the warnings of the police and Autobahn GmbH were taken seriously by the drivers. According to spokesman Markus Weyerhäuser, the traffic jams in the center of Gonsenheim were minimal compared to what could have been expected.

diversions and traffic flow

The full closure had concrete effects on traffic. In particular, the driveway Mainz-Finthen on the A60 in the direction of Bingen and the transition from the A643 on the Mainz triangle towards Rüsselsheim could not be used. Drivers from Bingen were diverted to the A643 towards Wiesbaden in the opposite direction, via various detour routes that include the Weisenauer Bridge and several highways.

Although the provisional construction is now installed, the Situation remains tense. Complete relaxation is not yet in sight, and drivers should continue to calculate delays and traffic jams, especially during rush hour traffic. Autobahn GmbH has already pointed out that the current regulation could continue until next spring.

The Gonsbachtal Bridge remains a central topic in the regional traffic discussion, and the newly implemented measures seem to be a short -term solution until the necessary work on a new bridge is completed. For a detailed view of the case, see the report on www.swr.de .
