Denise Stripf shines as a new Palatinate wine queen 2024!
In the festive hall building of Neustadt an der Weinstraße, the election for the 86th Palatinate Wine Queen took place on Friday, October 4, 2024. The event was a highlight for the region and attracted numerous spectators. Three applicants competed against each other to succeed the previous wine sovereignty. Denise Stripf from Bad Dürkheim, Lara Karr from Weisenheim am Berg and Manuel Reuther from Forst were the few chosen candidates who had qualified for the respected office.
The moderator of the evening, Janina Huber, who himself appeared as a Palatinate and German wine queen in 2013 and 2014, led through the program. The candidates had to demonstrate their knowledge of viticulture and oenology. Among other things, questions were to be answered in English, which increased the challenge. Even with several blind tastings, the right types of wine had to be identified. They received support from experts like Prof. Dr. Dominik Durner, an expert from the Neustadt wine campus, and Christian Wolf, who holds the tasting management at Meininger.
dramatic runoff election
The moment came around 10 p.m. when the jury had to choose her favorite. After the first election, it was to be decided that there was no clear winner. Ergo - runoff voting! In this exciting final round, Denise Stripf finally prevailed and became the 86th Palatinate wine queen. She ceremoniously received the golden crown, which was previously presented by her predecessor Charlotte Weihl. Lara Karr and Manuel Reuther were also honored, with Karr presented the silver crown and Reuther a brooch.
After the crowning glory, the success was celebrated with an after-show party that created an exuberant atmosphere. The evening, shaped by wine and joy, also offered a look behind the scenes of the wine tradition in the Palatinate.
This choice is of great importance not only for the candidates, but also for the whole region, since the wine queen acts as a representative of the Palatinate wine culture and will be present at numerous events and festivals. The event once again showed how important the wine culture is for the identity of the Palatinate, and underlined the commitment of young talents in the viticulture area. It remains to be seen how Denise Stripf will shape her role in the coming term.
