Bad Dürkheim invests in history: 95,300 euros for the castle church!

The city of Bad Dürkheim recently made a significant decision to support the historic castle church. The main and finance committee has decided to invest around 95,300 euros in the planned renovation of the church tower. This is done in accordance with a fundamental decision of 1992, which allows the city to provide grants for measures on churches that are necessary either to preserve the historical building structure or to mint the townscape. Mayor Natalie Bauerschmitt from the CDU said that these requirements were met in the case of the castle church.

The total costs for the renovation of the tower were estimated by the city at around 953,000 euros. The guaranteed 95,300 euros thus represent the maximum possible cost sharing on the part of the city. This support is particularly important because it is a decisive progress in the renovation work.

planned construction work next year

Stefan Kuntz, the dean of the Bad Dürkheim-Grünstadt church district, was pleased with the financial support and emphasized that this money is another step towards the beginning of the renovation work. Work on the tower is targeted for the coming year. In addition to the urban subsidy, further funding applications were also made to support the extensive renovation measures.

It is important to note that this renovation is part of a larger project that is carried out in several construction phases. In the first section, the roof of the castle church, the roots of which go back to the 13th century, and other parts of the church were renewed. The complete renovation should help to preserve the architecture and the historical value of the castle church in the long term. In September 2023, the church was put back into service after about a year of renovation and is now in an optimal condition for the municipal activities.
