Police stop tuning meetings: five cars confiscated!

The tuning scene gathered last Saturday for a big meeting in the Westerwald, which the Koblenz police called on the scene. This was done after indications of the fact that a considerable number of engine -loving people wanted to come together in Neuwied. At around 8:30 p.m., the police received around 500 vehicles that had gathered in front of a hardware store, and many pedestrians quickly folded together in the area to observe what is happening.

"After initial impairments in road traffic and dangerous driving maneuvers occurred," the police announced, comprehensive controls were carried out. This measure is no coincidence, because tuning culture has often attracted negative attention in the past. While tuning, the adaptation of vehicles for increasing performance, includes a passionate hobby community, illegal races and ruthless driving behavior are common side effects of such meetings. A look at history shows that this practice originated in the 1950s when the VW Beetle became a popular tuning object. Even if the tuning itself is not illegal, certain regulations must not be disregarded in conversions.

The police inspectors met with some violations. Five vehicles were confiscated for illegal modifications and numerous defect reports were issued. In a particularly serious case, a driver was confronted with criminal proceedings after accelerating heavily and driving towards a police officer who was luckily unharmed. These incidents underline the dangers that can go hand in hand with such meetings.

The car enthusiasts could not be discouraged. Disruptions by the police led them to search for a new meeting point in Oberhonnefeld-Giergent. But here, too, the police were waiting with controls. When the tuning scene moved further towards Altenkirchen, the law enforcement officers were quickly on hand and the group ultimately fled towards Siegen in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The police drew a consistently positive balance. Due to the presence and the extensive controls, further criminal acts could be prevented. The measures show that despite the passionate tuning culture, there is a narrow line between hobby and violation of the law. These events have a light on the challenges that the authorities have to cope with in compliance with traffic rules and security on the streets in such situations.

The tuning community remains active, but aimed at their activities with a constant eye of the police. In the future, circumstances could change to promote more peaceful coexistence between tuning fans and the law enforcement officers.
