EU extends the application period: Ahrtal companies breathe to until 2026!
Ahrtal, Deutschland - Kreis Ahrweiler. A radiant ray of hope for companies and farms in the Ahr Valley! The European Commission has extended the application deadline for the urgently needed development aid until June 30, 2026. This good news was announced by the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt and ensures relief in the region.
"Our commitment to the EU was worth it! That is a real relief for the companies in the Ahr Valley," cheered Schmitt. The decision of the EU Commission is not only a "really good news", but also a "real breakthrough". With this extension, the companies now have more time to rebuild their companies according to their ideas and to find the required specialists. Originally, the deadline was limited to December 31, 2024 due to the European aid law, but now the companies have one and a half years longer to submit their applications.

So far, around 584 million euros have already been approved for development aid for 714 applicant companies. Schmitt expects the number of applications to continue to increase, especially for larger projects that take more time. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate has initiated a notification procedure at the EU Commission in close cooperation with North Rhine-Westphalia and supported by the Federal Government to achieve this important extension.The positive developments in the Ahr Valley show that the region is on the way of improvement. The extension of the application deadline gives the companies the necessary time and flexibility to reorganize themselves and to master the challenges of reconstruction.
