Prices for equality: University of Cologne honors committed scientists!
The Jenny Gusyk prizes 2024 were awarded under the glamorous framework of the gender forum at the University of Cologne! This year there are three outstanding categories: "Equality", "Family -conscious leadership & management" and "young talent". These prices not only celebrate services, but also honor the first student of the university from 1919!
sensational award winners in the area of equality
In the "Equality" category, the "Women and Non-Binary Research Group" of the Cologne Center for Comparative Politics grabbed the main prize of 3,000 euros! This group has launched self-organized peer mentoring, which combines especially female and non-binary doctoral students and postdoctoral students. Through targeted measures such as writing workshops and interdisciplinary events, a powerful network of young scientists is made possible! The result? A boost for careers and the creation of an inspiring environment!
Another highlight was the award of the Jenny Gusyk Prize "Family -conscious leadership & management", which in this round to Professor Dr. Norma Jung and Professor Dr. Markus Stetter was awarded. Both award winners impressively show how family obligations and scientific excellence can be thought together. Jung, senior physician at the university clinic, emphasizes the challenges for women in medicine. Stetter inspires with his support of the team in the field of ecology - both do pioneering work in creating a balanced work culture!
young prices for groundbreaking work
The Jenny Gusyk "Young talent" was awarded this year to two brilliant scientific works that deal intensively with gender and queer studies. Tabea Odak was awarded the hidden feminist potential of a figure from the Bible for her bachelor thesis! Her sophisticated analysis challenges the interpretations of male scientists and questions patriarchal -shaped narratives. At the same time, Dr. Tobias-Alexander Herrmann for his dissertation on the subject of “Nonbinary Gender Identities: Linguistic Practices in Russian and Czech” great applause, a work that often throws controversial discussions in Germany.
The award ceremony took place on October 28, 2024 and was a wonderful event to celebrate progress in the university's equality work. With the focus on "timely righteousness: a question of power and freedom - also in science" and an impressive keynote by journalist Teresa Bücker, a platform for urgently needed discussions was created - the pulse of time is strong!
