Paralympics star Tanja Scholz: Neumünster remains my sporting home!

Neumünster, Deutschland - Neumünster. Tanja Scholz, the brilliant Paralympics winner, has entered the golden book of her sporty hometown Neumünster! The 40-year-old swimmer, who is paralyzed after a riding accident, not only won the gold medal over 150 meters at the Paralympic Games in Paris in August, but also fought silver over 50 meters freestyle. "This is my sporty hometown and even a little more. Neumünster was always there for me from the start. This day here is a great honor for me," enthused Scholz while her eyes shone with joy.

The swimmer trained up to ten times a week in the bath on the city forest in Neumünster and has been starting for the SV Union Neumünster police for years. It is currently less in the pool, but continues to practice in Elmshorn and Itzehoe, where the paths are shorter. "My goal is the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. I would like to attack again," she announced. Mayor Tobias Bergmann (SPD) was enthusiastic at the small ceremony and remembered the emotional moment of the final, which he had followed with Tanja Scholz 'family. "This is my personal highlight of this year! You can be really proud of your mother," he praised her three children.

a moving day and hard criticism

The day of the grand finale was a nerve -wracking matter for Tanja and her husband Björn. "Tanja was incredibly bad because her bathing cap and the swimming goggles could not be found," said Björn with a laugh, while Tanja corrected him humorously: "You had lost things, I would like to hold on here!" But the focus was not only on the medals: Tanja Scholz also criticized the promotion of sports in Germany. After her victory, she received the news that her funding could initially not be paid. In protest, she canceled an honor from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. "With shaking hands according to our successes, it is simply not enough for the politicians," clarified the confident athlete, while the funding has now been secured again.
