Austria in front of the company bankruptcy wave: 6,700 bankruptcies awaited!

In Austria, a massive insolvency wave threatens in 2025. According to Acredia Versicherung AG, around 6,700 company slides can be expected, which corresponds to a similar level as in 2024. Leader Gudrun Meierschitz warned that the weakening economy of the euro zone, especially those in Germany, and the falling demand significantly burden the situation of the companies. This gloomy forecast could even exacerbate a further percentage point by escalating customs and trade conflicts, such as Kosmo reported.

Acredia and the Allianz Trade also forecast a general increase in bankruptcies by six percent for 2025 for Europe. In addition to Austria, the neighboring countries are also affected: Italy expects an increase of 17 percent, Germany with ten percent and the Czech Republic with five percent. The developments in the individual sectors are alarming, especially in the area of financial services (+31 percent), in construction (+16 percent) as well as in retail and hospitality with growth of 18 and 21 percent. The uncertainty remains high, and companies have to adapt to the challenges to be successfully countered, such as Retail-news informed.

The global effects are also serious, since around 2.3 million jobs in Western Europe are directly at risk, which is an increase of 120,000 compared to the previous year. The forecasts for other countries show that Russia (+24 percent), Turkey (+20 percent), Brazil (+13 percent) and the USA (+11 percent) must also expect drastic climbs among bankruptcies. In 2026 the economic uncertainty remains high, the companies are required to develop resilience and adaptability in order to master the upcoming challenges.
