Sprudel water: Why Germans cannot live without life!
The US blogger "Ryaneats", who has lived in North Rhine-Westphalia for two years, shared his experience with German mineral water. In his videos, he regularly shows culinary highlights and special features, but has not tried a gumbling mineral water until the turn of the year. This changed when he was allowed to drink a glass of sparkling water for the first time and described the preference of the Germans for carbonated drinks as "like a drug". Many Germans, he reports, seem to be crazy without mineral water.
his followers support the hype for sparkling water with comments such as "sparkling water> champagne". When drinking his first glass, Ryan had difficulties with carbonic acid and breathed deeply. A fan recommended him to buy a water bubble to avoid dragging boxes, such as darwesten.de reported.
Popularity of mineral water in Germany
mineral water is very popular in Germany and is in second place in the drinks preferences after coffee. In 2016, 11.3 billion liters of mineral water were filled into bottles, with each German drank almost 149 liters of filled water (without tap water) on average. Carbonated variants that are preferred by 83.1 percent of Germans are particularly popular. However, the consumption of quiet water also increased, while classically bubbling water reached 4.4 billion liters. In tourist centers, it is common for German vacationers to be asked whether they want water with or without carbonic acid, such as suedkurier.de reported.
Germany has more than 500 mineral sources, many of them carbonated. Historically significant developments in carbonated enrichment go back to the 18th century. In 1783 Jacob Schweppe patented a process for the carbonated acid transfer of water, while Joseph Priestley experimented with carbon dioxide in drinks in 1754.
