Ukrainian in Burscheid: Honoring volunteers with great will!

Burscheid. Silke Riemscheid has headed the "Meeting point volunteering" since 2010 and has now experienced a wave of new engagements. Hundreds want to help, many of them from Ukraine, where they themselves went through difficult times. These people not only have to help the will, but also want to give something back, and this in a country that offers them a new home.

Karen Göbel from the "Meeting point volunteering": "People say that they were well received." Numerous newcomers are ready for a new life and are now helping others. The gratitude is noticeable and fulfills the team with pride. It is also impressive that many of the volunteers want to get involved in areas that are important for them, such as in the Evangelical Community or at the Tafel.

Intercultural exchange and communication

Communication works excellently! "Some are already speaking German well," said Göbel. Translation apps are valuable help for others. The Burscheiders who come from Ukraine do their best to integrate quickly. Riemscheid notes how difficult it is for people who have left relatives behind, but remains impressed by their determination not only to receive help, but also to become active.

In order to promote the new wave of engagement in the best possible way, the team actively approached people. Intercultural breakfast and in the Tri-Café could be made of interesting contacts. Mund-to-mouth propaganda worked wonders here! Now numerous options are waiting for the volunteers, from social institutions to leisure activities. The doors are open and the Burscheider are ready for new helping hands!
