Rhein-Sieg-Kreis. An exciting spectacle took place in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament when the youth took over! Alina Friske, only 16 years old and from Niederkassel, entered the footsteps of the state parliamentarians Katharina Gebauer and brought a breath of fresh air to the political processes. During the 14th youth state, the youngsters had the unique opportunity to take the places of the MPs and experience up close how the parliament works.

The topics of this year's youth country day were explosive: "mental health" and "economic issues in school lessons" were the focus. In heated parliamentary group and committee meetings, the young participants developed their own applications, which they brought to the vote in a lively plenary session. The results were clear - a strong signal to the main committee of the state parliament, which is now further examining the concerns of the young people and forwarding them to the real MPs.

The importance of youth state parliament should not be underestimated! Katharina Gebauer emphasizes: "The youth state day is invaluable because it not only offers young people a platform to bring their concerns directly, but also promote understanding and interest in democratic processes." Alina Friske is enthusiastic about her experience: "Through the youth state day 2024, I gave me the chance to get to know another side of politics and bring in my ideas. Politics is diverse, complex and exciting - a topic that we should all deal with!"

A survey among the participants of the last youth state shows that the political interest of the young people has increased enormously by participating. Since 2008, young people between the ages of 16 and 20 have had the opportunity to experience democratic processes up close and to bring in their political ideas. This unique format in Germany has established itself as a valuable springboard for politically interested young people.
