Golden times for our villages: Rhein-Sieg-Kreis celebrates the winner!
Siegburg, Deutschland - Rhein-Sieg-Kreis. A radiant success for the villages in the Rhein-Sieg district! The competition "Our village has a future" has chosen the best communities and the results are impressive: five gold, six silver and four bronze medals were awarded! District Administrator Sebastian Schuster celebrated this triumph in the Kreishaus Siegburg, where he handed over the coveted prizes together with Regina Rosenstock and Renate Becker-Steinhauer.
The gold medal in the category "Small towns under 800 inhabitants" goes to Deesem (Lohmar) and Helpenstell (Windeck). In the category "Large towns of over 1,000 inhabitants" Gielsdorf (Alfter), Lüftelberg (Meckenheim) and Neuhonrath-Auel (Lohmar) shine in gold! Particularly exciting: Neuhonrath-Auel will represent the Rhein-Sieg district in the state competition in 2025. The evaluation commission visited the 15 participant villages in September and evaluated using strict criteria.
The winners in detail
Neuhonrath-Auel, with 1,983 inhabitants, impressed the jury with a lively social and cultural life. The village meadow Schachenauel in particular as a generation meeting was well received. Gielsdorf convinced with an innovative “species protection tower” that offers an endangered bird species a home, while Lüftelberg shone with numerous social projects and the idea of installing historical street signs. Deesem scored with a barrier -free village square that brings together young and old, and Helpenstelle delighted with a creative nesting box campaign for children.
A special highlight: All participating villages received a special price, made possible by sponsors such as the RSVG Rhein-Sieg-Verkehrsgesellschaft and the Kreissparkasse Cologne. Altendorf/Ersdorf, Helpenstell, Lanzenbach and Lüftelberg are happy about 600 euros each, while the other 11 villages receive between 360 and 400 euros. The next competition "Our village has a future" is expected to take place in 2027 - one more reason to look forward to the upcoming challenges and ideas!
