Red Bank in Kierdorf: Signs against violence to women!
Erftstadt-Kierdorf has taken an important step towards protection and support for women and girls threatened by violence. The third "Rote Bank" was recently inaugurated at Martinusplatz, which serves as a symbol for offers of help and prevention. This initiative was created by the committed collaboration of Harald Dudzus from the Kierdorf History District and the Women's Advisory Board of the City of Erftstadt.
Christine Gabriel-Heiken, the chair of the village community Kierdorf, emphasized that the "Red Bank" is far more than just part of the urban equipment. Representatives of the local political community were also present at the inauguration, including the mayor Knuth Walter and Mayor Carolin Weitzel, both of whom were praised for their support of the project. This bank is to be used in the whole of Erftstadt to focus on the nationwide aid number for women (116 016) and to raise awareness of the urgent issue against women.
commitment and expansion of the project
The inauguration not only marks the conclusion of a single initiative, but is part of a more comprehensive plan that provides for further "red benches" in various districts of Erftstadt. New locations are already planned in Bliesheim, Dirmerzheim, Gymnich and Köttingen. Another bank will be inaugurated on Sunday, October 6th, on Hans-Kadner-Platz in Friesheim.
Another central concern of the project is to raise awareness of the public to the growing problem of domestic violence. This was also underlined by Hans-Josef Zens, assessor on the board of the Erftstädter FDP. Above all, he thanked the Dünnwald family, which, through a citizens' application, pointed out the urgent improvements to the conditions in the women's shelter. Zens mentioned that the capacities for the accommodation of victims must be checked because they have increased incidents in the Rhein-Erft district in recent years.
The mayor and the representative of the Greens, Tina Conrady, have already assured their support for the measures. The clear goal is to improve the existing structures and to offer the victims of violence a safe contact point.
This means that the "Red Bank" is not only perceived as a seat, but also as a request to society to be attentive and actively oppose violence. Another clear message is the urgent need for support in the community in order to be able to help women and girls in difficult situations more effectively.
