Memories of Remscheid's indoor pool: From swimming to the residential complex!
Remscheid, Deutschland - In 1998 the Lüttringhauser indoor pool was closed, an important leisure and sports offer for the citizens of Lüttringhausen. In a report by the RGA on January 10, 1999, plans were presented to convert the indoor pool into a multi -purpose hall or a community center. This transformation should be carried out using a steel structure that should cover the pool and use the space for various activities. Although the council groups supported the idea, the implementation failed due to the financing, even with a 70 percent promotion by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Today a residential complex has been built on the site of the former indoor pool, while only the Bath couple sculpture has been preserved behind the town hall, such as rga.de reported.
The indoor pool had played a central role for the citizens of Lüttringhausen for many years. After the opening of the "Städtische Badstalt Lüttringhausen" in 1929, it was a popular place for sporting and social activities. Children learned swimming there, and the Lüttringhauser Turnverein offered various swimming sports. The facility was lively used for tub and shower baths and the anteroom served as a social meeting point. However, the bathroom was closed by the Remscheid municipal utility in 2004 because it no longer met the modern requirements. Since then, the Heimatbund Lüttringhausen has been committed to the upgrading of the town hall environment and the preservation of the bathing couple sculpture, which was re-established as part of a water feature, as Rathauspark-luettringhausen.de
history of the bathing establishment
The building history of the Lüttringhauser Hallenbad dates back to 1886 when the first indoor swimming pool was opened in Lennep. In 1926 the decision was made to convert the disused gas factory into an indoor pool. The opening of the swimming pool took place on April 13, 1930 and offered the residents of Lüttringhausen and the surrounding area the opportunity to get swimming lessons.
In the following decades, the indoor pool experienced several renovations and modernizations before it was finally closed in 1998. The entire process, which led to closure and ultimately demolition, was shaped by the municipal utilities and the city of Remscheid. In 2010, a senior district was built on the former property of the bathroom, while the memories of the swimming pool and its importance are to be preserved in the newly designed environment.
