In Paderborn, an impressive sign of solidarity was set: over 12 million euros were collected at this year's “Christmas Wonder” fundraiser. The radio station of the same name WDR2 broadcast over 107 hours live from the cathedral square and thus mobilized numerous citizens from the region. The amount exceeds the record sum of the previous year, which was 8.2 million euros. The moderators Sabine Heinrich, Thomas Bug, Steffi Neu and Jan Malte Andresen proudly announced the sum on Wednesday evening. Many people and institutions, including the university and the Archdiocese, actively and donate money, such as nw.de reported.
impressive participation and festivities
The mood in Paderborn during the five days was exuberant and festive. Popular artists such as Max Giesinger and The Boss Hoss performed and attracted immense crowds, so that the police had to block the entrances to the cathedral square at times. The city was very busy during the event, which impressively demonstrated how much the people are behind this important action. Under the motto "Together against hunger in the world" it became clear that the donations are used not only for local projects, but also for over 30 aid projects worldwide, including the "Tafeln NRW", as it press.wdr.de
The participants showed a remarkable willingness to help, which also deeply touched the moderators of the event. Sabine Heinrich emphasized that the cohesion in the region was remarkable, and Steffi newly underlined the impressive moments and conversations that they could have with people. WDR director Tom Buhrow praised the commitment of the citizens and found that the action had strengthened the feeling of community. "The 'WDR 2 Christmas Wonder' is a matter close to the heart," he said and thanked everyone involved for their support.
