Parking fees in Olpe doubled: Citizens and politics in a dispute!

Olpe. A hot topic in Olpe: The city is planning to create 40 new parking spaces! These urgently needed parking spaces are created on the site of a former petrol station that has been owned by the city since 2003. But the conversion is not without challenges. The property is contaminated with contaminated sites, which must now be properly removed. The first preparatory work should begin this year with the aim of completing the construction work by mid -2025.

The legacies from the time of the car dealership and the petrol station, which were operated from 1919 to the 1980s, require extensive renovation measures. The association for surface recycling and contaminated sites (AAV) will guide the work that includes the creation and dismantling of the existing buildings as well as the exchange of the loaded soil. The area that is located in the immediate vicinity of the town hall is to be used as a parking space after the renovation.

Parking fees and mobility concept

In parallel to these developments, the doubling of the parking fees to one euro per hour ensures heated discussions. While the SPD faction criticizes the increase as a financial cut for long-term parkers, the Greens see the measure necessary to increase the attractiveness of the city. The new mobility concept, which also provides for free short -term parking spaces, is criticized by the CDU as inadequate. "This is not the hoped -for Olper solution," says Markus Arens from the CDU, which reinforces the concerns about the implementation of the concept.
