Olpe becomes green: New trend during burials ensures change!

Olpe, Deutschland - In Olpe, a current cemetery report shows a clear trend: fewer and fewer burials, but a majority of 70 percent of urn burials. This development was presented by Simon Wurm, a young administrative employee of the city. From 2020 to 2023, a total of 1060 burials took place in the local cemetery and in the funeral forest, the latter being increasingly chosen as the preferred resting place for urns. Almost half of the urns are buried in the funeral forest, which is also open to deceased outside the Olper city area, such as Siegener-zeitung.de

The city also plans to expand the resources there in order to meet the growth of demand. Among other things, 15 new trees are to be planted in the funeral forest, which offer space for a total of 450 grave points. In addition to modern urn grave fields, the concept of the "farming garden" also gains popularity, in which flowers and shrubs ensure a natural environment instead of typical gravestones. These new forms of burial not only expand the possibilities of grief culture, but also make the cemetery increasingly greener. The changes are not only reflected in the funeral figures, but also in the design of the cemetery systems. Among other things, the falling maintenance effort plays a crucial role, which proves to be advantageous for many relatives.
