Disaster protection exercise in Remscheid: This is how volunteers are preparing!
In Remscheid, the German Red Cross (DRK) Remscheid and Mettmann are preparing for an important trial training day. On Saturday, October 19, there will be an exercise on disaster protection in downtown Remscheid. The aim of this exercise is to ensure that the emergency services can act optimally in an emergency. The starting point for this simulation is the area of the company Edscha Holding on Hohenhagener Straße, and the activity begins around 10 a.m. The assignment should be ended around 1 p.m.
The DRK emphasizes that during the exercise you will do without flashing lights and Martinshorn so as not to disturb the traffic unnecessarily. "We drive without flashing lights and Martinshorn," explains Daniel Dolz, district operations manager of the DRK Remscheid. "We will gradually join the traffic and make sure that there are as few irritations as possible." So that traffic remains undisturbed during the practice, this is a mindful decision.
The purpose of the exercise
The exercise should prepare the emergency services for an emergency, especially if the fire brigade should occur. "The central question is: Who will help if the forces are at the end? It are volunteers who support disaster protection," explains Dolz. In addition, the coordination is rehearsed with a newly drawn DRK unit from Mettmann.
Although the emergency services are informed that it is an exercise, the exact processes are still unknown. The organizers strive to make the exercise as realistic as possible in order to re -enact the stressful situations of correct operations. "It is a stressful situation, but it is primarily a matter of implementing agreements and practicing processes," says Dolz.
This type of exercises is extremely important to increase the ability to act and speed of the helpers in an emergency. Process safety and coordination of action are the central aspects that must also be learned and practiced in theory as in practice. Daily routine and extensive exercises such as this help to optimally prepare the emergency services for unexpected events.
In view of the fact that in a disaster case often unpredictable challenges occur, each exercise is a step in the right direction. In addition to the exercise in Remscheid, the importance of cooperation between the different DRK units is emphasized. The national interaction is another important aspect that is taken into account in the exercise.
