School lunch in Leverkusen: So our children eat healthy!

In Leverkusen, thousands of students use the cafeteria and cafeterias of their schools every day to eat during the lunch break. Of the 15 secondary schools in the city, nine offer a cafeteria or cafeteria, including all high schools and both comprehensive schools. The Opladen secondary school and the three secondary schools, on the other hand, do not have their own censuses.

The food plans are based on the guidelines of the German Nutrition Society and offer balanced and age -appropriate meals. At the Theodor Wuppermann secondary school in Manfort, for example, 35 to 40 students eat in the cafeteria every day, which has a maximum of 80 places. Lunch costs 3.80 euros, whereby many students are supplied free of charge via the education and participation program. The dishes are delivered by Burscheider Caterer Nickut, who also works in other schools in Leverkusen.

The secondary school in Leverkusen, which was founded in 2015, offers its students a warm lunch that can be selected via an order system. Here the children can choose between different dishes such as organic potato Rösti or chicken schnitzel. At the Käthe-Kollwitz comprehensive school there is also a warm lunch on long days, which is offered for 4.20 euros. The Schlebusch comprehensive school stands out by a parent association that operates the cafeteria itself and has been satisfying for 30 years.

The Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium and the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium also offer a wide range of menus, whereby the offer of caterers such as Nickut and the school club itself is determined. At the Landrat-Lucas-Gymnasium, the students can choose from four different menus, while the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium and the Archbishop's Marienschule also operate a cafeteria with fresh dishes. The Mensa offers in Leverkusen are diverse and offer something for every taste, whereby also special nutritional needs are taken into account.
