Bahn-chaos in Cologne: Long-distance traffic is released!
At the beginning of October, the Situation in rail traffic in Cologne is heading. A comprehensive construction project leads to massive restrictions in the train operation, which not only affect local transport travelers, but also severely restrict long -distance travelers. Deutsche Bahn closed the tracks of the Cologne-Ehrenfeld train station from October 1 (5 a.m.) to October 5 (9 p.m.) for all trains. This measure is part of the necessary renewal of the signal boxes in the region, which has been necessary for weeks and leads to interruptions again and again
Such restrictions are not unusual in the German rail network. Most recently, Cologne Central Station suffered from a similar disorder, where train traffic was not possible for hours. These current construction work have the result that numerous trains have to drive on diversion routes or fail completely.
The changes in detail
The changes affect several regional and long-distance trains. Here is an overview of the affected lines:
- Re 1: trains fail between Horrem and Cologne Central Station. Replace buses drive from Horrem to Cologne Messe/Deutz station, but do not stop at the main train station.
- RE 6: Failures between Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof and Cologne/Bonn Airport, but replacement contents are set up in Cologne Messe/Deutz (deep) and Leverkusen Mitte.
- RE 8: This train fails between Pulheim and Troisdorf. Travelers can use alternative buses, but there are already premature failures between Troisdorf and Koblenz Hauptbahnhof due to other work.
- Re 9: trains fail between Horrem and Troisdorf, alternative trains or buses are available here.
- RB 25: trains between Cologne-Hansaring and Cologne Frankfurter Straße are affected, so the trains end in Cologne Frankfurter Strasse.
- RB 27: between Pulheim and Troisdorf fails, with buses being used as a replacement.
- RB 38: In this route, trains between Cologne Messe/Deutz and Horrem fail.
- S-Bahnen: also the S-Bahn, in particular S 6, S 11, S 12 and S 19, are affected by considerable restrictions, with numerous trains eliminated.
In addition, the closure also affects the internationally traveling trains. The ICE line from Brussels via Aachen to Cologne and Frankfurt is affected. Two of the seven daily connections are completely canceled, and the remaining trains have an extended travel time for about two hours because they are diverted. This redirection means that the trains do not have to keep Messe/Deutz at Cologne Central Station, but in Cologne, which leads to changes in the arrival and departure times.
other construction sites in NRW railway traffic
The current disorders are part of a wider topic: Numerous railway lines are currently affected in all of North Rhine-Westphalia and are blocked until winter. Another example is the railway line to Amsterdam, which is affected by disorders by October 20. Many restrictions can also be expected on the ICE route between Aachen and Berlin until December 14th. From mid -October there will be additional failures by blocking the Hamm - Hannover route.
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop. Travelers should definitely find out about their connections in advance to avoid nasty surprises. Deutsche Bahn also warns that there can always be short -term changes in the timetable due to the comprehensive work.
