Tiergarten Kleve is happy about new residents: sloth Frieda!
Kleve, Deutschland - In the Kleve zoo, visitors can recently admire the new sloth female Frieda. Four -year -old Frieda, characterized by her long fur and the big, round eyes, was recorded in mid -December by the Zooparc Overloon in Kleve. The transport was carried out as part of the European conservation breeding program, which is coordinated by the Bergzoo Halle.
A specially made sloth transport box was used for transport, which has a horizontal branch on which Frieda could hold on during the trip. The transport from Overloon to Kleve was both short and comfortable.
Friedas new home
After her arrival in the Tiergarten, Frieda curiously explored her new environment. She shares her new home with the Liszstaffen family and the sloth man Carlo. Slots are known for their slow movements, whereby they reach top speeds of only 1 km/h. This adaptation helps you to escape predators.
Friedas natural food mainly consists of energy -free leaves, which leads to a slow metabolism. In addition, sloths sleep up to 16 hours a day and have a variable body temperature between 30 and 34 ° C. As a rule, they live loners and only seek the closeness of others for mating.
In order to observe the behavior of Carlo and Frieda in the night hours, a camera was installed in the sloth system. The Kleve Tiergarten opens every day at 9 a.m. and is open on New Year's Eve until 1 p.m. and January 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the Christmas holidays, visitors can receive a free rally at the cash register by January 6th.
