Citizens' decision: Reichswald remains without a national park after a clear no voice

In the district of Kleve, a significant decision was made about the future of the Reichswald. In the event of a citizens' decision, 52.7 percent of voters spoke out against the application of the district for a possible national park. From 265,101 citizens entitled to vote, a total of 110,848 took part in the vote, unexpectedly a remarkable number of 52,338 citizens with "yes", while 58,408 were against the initiative, such as the Kreis Kleve reported. The results show that the voting was not uniform in the population, and just under 41.8 percent of the citizens entitled to vote took part in the vote.

Resistance to wind turbines

In connection with the results of the citizens' decision, the NABU district association Kleve announced that there is still a significant rejection of wind turbines in the Reichswald. According to Adalbert Niemers, the 2nd deputy chairman of the nature conservation association Germany, 52,000 citizens supported the initiative for the International Park Reichswald, which the organization had not expected. Despite a opposite campaign that spread incorrect information and represented the national park as a threat to property rights, the NABU continues its efforts to maintain the Reichswald as a nature reserve without allowing wind energy plants, according to the Niederrhein News .

These developments indicate that the resistance of the citizens against alternative energy sources in the forested area is strongly pronounced and that future plans for the Reichswald could significantly influence. The NABU will continue to work for species protection and environmental education in the forest and hopes to encounter long -term support in the region.
