Wumededar liked: Russia conquers strategically important city in Ukraine

Kyiv (dpa) - The Situation on the eastern front of Ukraine has dramatically worsened. According to reports, Ukraine has lost the Vorposten Wabledar, a city in the Donetsk area. This city, which had around 15,000 residents before the war, was under Ukrainian control for over two years and was badly damaged. Russian troops have taken control there after months of fighting and put their flags on several buildings in Wabledar. Despite these reports of military blogs and Ukrainian observers, there is still no official confirmation of the loss of the Ukrainian government.

In his evening video address, President Wolodymyr Selenskyj addressed the important role of foreign armaments companies for Ukraine. A forum of the defense industry is currently taking place in Kiev, in which representatives from over 30 countries and almost 300 companies take part. At the same time, the Ukrainians commemorated the fallen soldier with a minute's silence on Tuesday.

fights for Wuhedar

The loss of Wuhedar is the latest setback for the Ukrainian armed forces who have been fighting the Russian army for months. The Russians originally tried in vain to conquer the city and suffered high losses. In the course of the past few months, however, the Russian troops managed to avoid Wuhedar and almost completely surround the city. Questions remain unanswered: Reports on a regular withdrawal of the Ukrainian troops have not yet been confirmed. However, many Russian military bloggers suspect that some Ukrainian soldiers are still in the city.

The information from the Ukrainian general staff remained vague. While fights for Wuhedar were still reported on Tuesday morning, there was no question in the later reports. Instead, the Russian attacks focused on the nearby village of Bohojawlenka.

expansion of the Ukrainian armaments industry

In the middle of these military challenges, Selenskyj emphasizes that support in the form of foreign military aid is not sufficient. It is crucial that as many defense companies as possible show interest in working with Ukraine worldwide. The upgrade has already started speed and investments flow into the Ukrainian armaments industry. In addition to established companies, the production of new technologies such as long -distance roaring is also reported.

The Ukrainian government plans to produce 1.5 million drones by the end of the year, which is a considerable increase compared to the previous year. In addition, armaments production tripled compared to 2023. Selenskyj emphasized that in the first half of 2023 the generation of ammunition was 25 times higher than in the same period in 2022. The successful test of its own ballistic rocket is also considered significant progress.

In the middle of these developments there are also reports on supposed war crimes. The Ukrainian judiciary examines a video that shows the alleged murder of 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers. Attorney General Andriy Kostin spoke of a potential serious violation of war law if the processes shown in the video should come true.

On the other hand, the Russian domestic secret service FSB reported on the arrest of 39 people, allegedly because of their participation in "destructive internet communities", which, according to FSB, are said to have planned violent acts in Russia on behalf of Ukraine. The pressure on dissenters in the country has increased since the beginning of the war war, which further complicates the tense geopolitical situation.
