The Nabu Herne organizes the "Hour of Winter Birds 2025" on Sunday, January 12, 2025. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Biological Station of the Eastern Ruhr area at Vinckestraße 91, 44623 Herne. This action begins with the nationwide NABU winter bird counting, the nature lover for counting birds on feed houses, in gardens, on balconies or in parks.
As part of the event, Norbert Kilimann will run professionally, and the participants are encouraged to take their own binoculars with them. The bird observations are carried out in the weather -protected foyer with panoramic windows. In 2024, 21 species of birds and a total of 72 birds were already counted at the all-year feed system, which underlines the interest in the count, as HalloHerne.de

The "hour of winter birds" is a joint action by Nabu and the Landesbund for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV). The aim of the event is to encourage the population, to count familiar and widespread bird species such as titles, finches, robin and sparrows. The next nationwide count will take place in the period from January 10th to 12th, 2025, with a registration deadline on January 20, 2025.
