Leverkusen misses victory against surprising brest: 1-1 in Guingamp!

Guingamp (dpa)-Bayer Leverkusen missed his third victory in the Champions League group phase! In a gripping game against Stade Brest, the two teams separated 1-1. The Werkself, without its striker Victor Boniface and numerous regular players, had to be satisfied with a performance in the Roudourou stadium, which was dominant, but was ultimately not victorious. Florian Wirtz put the guests in the lead in the 24th minute, but Pierre Lees-Melou equalized 15 minutes later for the surprisingly strong French team.

The absence of Boniface, which has to recover with minor injuries after a car accident, was a logistical challenge. Trainer Xabi Alonso reacted with a massive change: he changed eight players! This was a strategic decision to regulate the stress of the players. Above all, goalkeeper Matej Kovar celebrated his Champions League premiere, while striker Patrik Schick and other newbies opened a completely new chapter in the starting eleven. Despite the changes, the game ran long after the Leverkusener plan.

tension up to the last minute

The game was an exciting duel in which the Leverkuseners clearly took control. Wiley Wirtz 'glorious goal from 16 meters was the perfect answer to the French offensive strategy. But the goal, which was created out of nowhere, hit the Leverkusener into the mark and ensured that the Bretons were reared up. In the exciting final phase, the guests pushed for another goal and even hoped for a penalty - but the referee was silent. The action ended 1: 1, and both teams are now in the group with seven points.
