The first gay herd of Germany: love, wool and more!

Löhne, Deutschland - wages (dpa) - Michael Stücke is not an ordinary shepherd - he leads the first gay sheep project in Germany! On his farm in East Westphalia, where he keeps a little over a few hundred sheep, a very special herd has settled that could conquer the hearts of all the wildlife. These sheep's bones live and love according to their own rules, a concept that not only creates animal freedoms, but also fashion for a good cause.

The Rainbow-Wool initiative that has launched pieces promises a fashionable collection from the wool of these gay sheep. The proceeds flow directly into projects for strengthening queer rights worldwide. Pieces are supported by the civil rights organization Association Queere Diversity and a Cologne advertising agency that is on his side on a voluntary basis. "These animals can now live and love who they want," explains the shepherd, who even lives in a partnership with a man.

unique herd and prominent support

pieces find that about 9 % of all sheep's bones show homosexual tendencies, which is confirmed by scientists like Gottfried Hohmann from the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Biology. Homosexuality is also widespread in the animal kingdom and not only serves reproduction, but also as stress relief within the herd. "Usually these bucks land at the butcher," explains pieces. But not on his farm! Here the gay bucks are shorn exclusively and are allowed to live on the site for life.

The hype around the Rainbow-Wool collection has grown through prominent support, including singer Bill Kaulitz, which adopted two sheep for an advertising campaign, which in one fell swoop ensured great media attention. Pieces of farm was quickly converted into a film set for a video shoot, and soon the herd could grow around 100 more bucks to enable even larger fashion offers. "Our project shows that we are also open in the country, more than many think," added pieces proudly. With a sustainable vision, this innovative shepherd hopes for a positive turn for the challenging sheep breeding industry in Germany.
