Germany fights for hostages: Ambassador Seibert speaks plain text!
In a moving appeal, the German ambassador in Israel, Steffen Seibert, demanded the immediate release of around 100 Israeli hostages, which are in the hands of the Hamas in the Gaza Strip. On the occasion of the 400th day of brutal hostage -taking, which took place on October 7, 2023 during a devastating attack, Seibert spoke in front of thousands of demonstrators in Tel Aviv and expressed his deep grief and helplessness. "We are calling for their return," he emphasized, recalling the 250 kidnapped men, women and children who are in the violence of the extremists.
Seibert, who performed for the second time at such a rally, made it clear that he thinks of the delayed hostages every day. The brutal events of October 7, in which Hamas and other extremists killed 1,200 people in Israel, led to the outbreak of the Gaza War. As part of a ceasefire at the end of November 2023, 105 hostages were released through the Hamas, while Israel in return released 240 Palestinian prisoners. But since then, the indirect negotiations on ceasefire and the release of further hostages have been unsuccessful.
The desperate location of the hostages
The situation is dramatic: individual hostages have been freed by the Israeli military, but several have already been recovered dead. Seibert expressed the dark guess that many of the hostages may no longer be alive. The pressure on the international community is growing, while hope for an early return of the hostages is disappearing. The events in Tel Aviv are an urgent call to solidarity and urgent need to free the hostages from the clutches of Hamas.
