Liverpool defeats Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 - Alonso stays without a goal!

In a memorable football evening, Bayer Leverkusen experienced a painful defeat in Liverpool! The team of coach Xabi Alonso had to give up 0: 4, despite a solid first round. The impressive atmosphere in the legendary Aufield Stadium made even the most experienced players run the sweat on the forehead. The fans loudly sang the name of their former star Alonso, but that couldn't save the mood at Bayer.

The first half ended goalless, but the second half of the defensive weaknesses of Leverkusen exposed. The Reds, led by the outstanding Luis Díaz, scored three of their four goals after dramatic mistakes in the defense of the guests. Díaz scored three times (61st, 83rd and 90.+2) and Cody Gakpo in the 65th minute added the second goal. Granit Xhaka said after the game: "You can't master Liverpool for 90 minutes, but we must not allow ourselves such simple goals. Every defeat hurts, but we are ready to fight against the best."

leverkusen under pressure

The Leverkusen defensive was enormously challenged while Liverpool dominated the game. Despite a clever match plan from Alonso and a concentrated first half in which Bayer remained defensively disciplined, the pressure of the Reds was too great. Before the game, many speculated how Alonso would receive. The answer was a friendly but reserved reception, which, however, quickly got into the background when the game increased in intensity.

Bayer was initially lucky when a supposed goal by Jeremie Frimpong was revoked due to handball. But the second half showed Liverpool's true strength, while the lack of concentration in the Leverkusen defense was mercilessly punished. The impressive Angard mood was the key to Liverpool's fourth victory in the fourth game of the Champions League season. Leverkusen now has to reorganize, while the Reds are still stuck to the top of the table.
