New schoolyard in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel: Game and fun for the kids!

In a significant step for the educational institution, the special school on Bergmannsglückstraße in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel inaugurated its newly designed school yard. After a longer construction period and investments of 400,000 euros, the school yard is now available to both the students and the public. This place not only promises a celebration for the students, but also a valuable leisure area for the residents.

The new school yard is divided into two color areas: a special area for the younger children up to fourth grade, which is held in warm red tones, and another for the older students, designed in blue tones. The newly introduced game and movement elements include a balancing course and a climbing frame. In addition, a small soccer field, basketball basket and a climbing network was set up on the secondary stream. The sustainable planning of this area ensures that it remains accessible to the general public even after school.

The new facilities not only offer the children a place to play, but also rest opportunities with classic benches, tree benches and lying benches that invite you to linger and to social encounters. This design was not only optimized for daily use at school, but also for the leisure activities of the children in the district.

The official opening of the school yard attracted numerous guests, including representatives of the city of Gelsenkirchen. District Mayor Dominic Schneider and Irja Hönekopp, the head of the staff center for strategic urban renewal, emphasized the positive development of the district in their speeches through this measure. Jasmin Böhm, the headmistress of the facility, paid tribute to the cooperation of everyone involved who contributed to the appealing result.

A very special highlight of the opening ceremony was a school party in which the students were able to try out the new facilities. At different scores, the children had the opportunity to test their skills in archery or can throwing while they were able to fortify themselves with delicacies such as crepes and freshly baked waffles.

A remarkable aspect of the redesign was the inclusion of the pupils in the planning in 2019. their suggestions, in particular the desire for more seating and social meeting points, were integrated into the implementation. This shows not only the important role of the school community, but also the strong commitment to improve the school environment.

The financing of this project was ensured 80 percent from the federal and state funding, under the program "Urban renewal Hassel.westerholt.Bericht". This support illustrates the commitment to improve infrastructure and quality of life in Gelsenkirchen.

The completely redesigned school area not only offers an aesthetic, but also a functional profit for the district. Students, teachers and the neighborhood can now benefit from the better equipment and the diverse possibilities.
